I saw this How I Read Book tag on this blog and it really caught my interest so I thought of doing one as well. Books played a major role in my life when I was growing up and until now so this have been fun for me to write.
1. How do you find out about new books to read?
I usually just add books to my to-read list in Goodreads based on the Recommendations section and sometimes based on what my friends are reading.
2. How did you get into reading?
My father works overseas and when I was younger he would send us a box of gifts for us. I usually get a story book from him then. That’s how I discovered the wonder of books at a young age. And when I was in high school, I had a hard time feeling like I belong with my peers so books became an escape for me.
3. How has your taste in books changed as you got older?
Of course, as I get older, my interests change. I used to love adventure books when I was age 12-14. I was very fond of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, those books helped me get through some awful moments in my life. Then as I get older, I’ve became very fond of young adult books such as The Hunger Games series, Mortal Instruments series and books by John Green. However, the books I loved the most during my late adolescence are books by Melina Marchetta. I really recommend her books to everyone because those books really shaped me and made an impact on me. Now that I’m 22, I’m exploring classic books which I really hated before. Actually, I’m still not fond of them but I’m really trying to finish one. I’m sort of stuck with A Tale of Two Cities which is a chore for me to read. Aside from the classics, I really love reading regency books right now.
4. How often do you buy books?
Unfortunately, I don’t buy books often anymore. I guess the last time I’ve bought a book for leisure is five months ago and the latest new book I have was a present. I’ve been really busy with medical school that I just couldn’t find the time to read books anymore. Also, it’s hard to buy books now since I have so much more to pay like electricity bills, water bills and groceries.
5. How did you get into book reviewing?
I used to have a book blog in wordpress.com that I gave up on a few months ago. It started with reviewing books in Goodreads and then I tried out wordpress. Right now, I’m aiming to review more books through this blog when I get the time.
6. How do you react when you don’t like the ending of a book?
I used to really complain about in my previous blog. If that book has a sequel, I just give up on the whole series. I also give the book a lower rating in Goodreads because for me, endings kind of make or break a book.
7. How often do you sneak a peek at the ending to see if there is a happy ending?
Okayyy… I ALWAYS (like a 100%) sneak a peek at the end of the book. However, it’s not to know if the book has a happy ending.. it’s not to look at the ending at all. I just sort of have this little ritual where I read the last sentence of a book. Of course, that sentence won’t make sense since there’s no context. And then, I read the book from the beginning. I just like that exact moment when that sentence starts to make sense. I’m always like “oh so that’s why the last sentence was written that way”. Is this weird? I just like wondering and then finding out. And I almost always gets surprised because it wasn’t how I thought it would be and how it still never spoils me.
So… that’s it! I really enjoyed answering these questions. It kind of made me remember how much I love books, kind of rekindled the fire within. Just made me remember that books will always be my first love.
