Hello everyone! It’s another Wednesday and it’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday post. Hello everyone! It’s Wednesday and time for another Top 5 Wednesday post. Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme currently hosted by Thoughts on Tomes. Here’s the goodreads group in case you want to participate too!
Last week’s topic is a freebie which means we got to choose our own topic and I chose “Books that Made Me Cry My Eyes Out”. Check out the post here.
This week’s topic is Redemption Arcs. At first, I thought about skipping this topic because I can’t think of five book character with great redemption arcs. And then I decided to list my favorite redemption arcs from TV series, including a Korean Drama. If you haven’t watch these tv shows and you are planning to, don’t read on because there’s lots of spoilers ahead.
Rumplestiltskin from Once Upon A Time
Rumpelstiltskin was a villain until the last few seasons. He was a power-hungry man who was always making deals that benefit himself. He had a hard time giving up his power even though it meant giving up his son. He was actually also willing to give up his grandson too. We also saw his history and we found out that he wasn’t always The Dark One. But when he became The Dark One, he really became dark. And even when he had Belle, he also had a hard time giving that up. But in the end, he became good again with Belle’s help. In the end, what he wanted was to give up the dagger the right way, give up his immortality to be together with Belle again. And he and Belle actually found their way back to each other again.
Regina Mills from Once Upon A Time
Regina was once the series’ ultimate villain. She was the one who casted the dark curse, she’s the one who tried to kill Snow White several times and she was the one who was always keeping characters from being together. She was the one to be defeated but even then, I couldn’t help but root for her. She lost her true love and that broke her. What I really loved is how her redemption arc is shown. Slowly, she found a way to be good again for her son. And in the end, she really did change and people saw that. In the finale, the Evil Queen actually became Queen of All the Realms.
Klaus Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals
Klaus Mikaelson is one of the most charming characters I’ve ever seen in a TV show. He was a villain in The Vampire Diaries as he wanted to sacrifice Elena for a ritual to free his werewolf side. But… fans can’t help but love him and his family. So, a spin-off was created. The Originals was all about Klaus’ redemption. Elijah, his brother, didn’t lose hope that Klaus is not all bad. And Klaus wasn’t. He does everything to protect his family, especially his daughter, Hope. I’m not yet updated on The Originals but I am sure that Klaus isn’t the villain he was anymore.
Leonard Snart from The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow
Leonard may have been the coolest villain in The Flash, pun intended. I really liked his dynamics with Barry. There were so many times that I thought he’s going to be better but he ended up betraying Barry in those times. But, in Legends of Tomorrow, Leonard sacrificed his life to save the Legends. So, villain redeemed.
The Grim Reaper from Goblin
In the Grim Reaper’s past life, he was a king. The king had Kim Shin, a general, killed because of “treason”. Past forward to the modern times, Kim Shin became a Goblin and the king became a Grim Reaper. In their new lives, the Grim Reaper and the Goblin became the best of friends. The Grim Reaper repented on his past sins and became a good friend in the end.
